What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha means the union of the sun and the moon, thus hatha yoga is the balance between the sun and the moon force in the body.
They symbolically represent the life-force and mental-force.
Objectives of Hatha Yoga
The essential goal of hatha yoga is to get the greatest balance between the physical body, the mind and the life-force or prana.
Hatha yoga not only intends to strengthen the body but also to harmonize and balance the whole nervous system by means of the practice of different exercises that involve breathing.
To achieve this goal, hatha yoga works with asanas (physical postures), pranayamas (breath control), mudras (physical poses to concentrate the life- force), yoga nidra (assisted and conscious relaxation). |
